Blog post 20

our group is arguing that money is not important in this novel or time period. We have some strong evidence such as funeral of the Gatsby like how no one showed up. even daisy this shows money is not important but relations are. Thousands of people came every weekend to party at Gatsby's but not a person attended his funeral. This is one of our main point. I don't want to put other evidence on here because our opposing team may find them. Yes i am very excited about the trail because i love arguing about topics like this. We also had a trial last year in English 2 in Ms. Homa's class. It was very fun and hopefully things I learned from it would help me with this trial. Our group is going to nail it. Cant wait till Friday. yes our group is definitely dressing up. we need those extra credit points and it will also make the classroom feel like it is actually 1920's. No we have not talked much but we do know what we are doing. Hopefully we get time in class tomorrow to decide how we are going to counter their arguments and get more evidence from the book.

Blog post 19

yes, it was an amazing novel. I was very disappointed with daisy and tom because they did not even come to the Gatsby funeral. I am more mad at Daisy because she knew she did the accident but still did not say anything. How selfish can you be? It made me feel so sad for Gatsby because he loved such selfish girl. He deserved much better person than selfish little dumb bitch.
Tom made a really stupid mistake of giving Wilson a fault impression of Jay murdered her wife and he was the one having affair with her. He is also trying to save himself. Jay here was the one who was kind, noble man. He did not deserve such kind of death. This act of Tom made me even more angry.
Nick on the other hand did everything he could to get as many people at the funeral but unfortunately no one showed up except him and his dad. This made him very sad and realize that Jay was a very lonely man and did not have many friends. Jay did everything he could to get daisy but at the end all he got was miserable death and got accused of something he did not commit. This was so not fair. The act of kindness from nick made him a way better person than anyone else in that city.
Jordan on the other hand does not know what she is doing. She is just a bystander witnessing everything that is going around. she never loved nick either she was just using him to get information from him. She just wanted to be part of this big mess.

There was  a lot of colors everywhere, in fact this was the most colorful novel i have ever read but I did not understand the point of using all these colors. I just ignored them in the text and kept reading the novel. I noticed they were there but did not feel much symbolism towards it. Sometimes it did make sense like the green light at the end of the dock and the eyes of doctor was blue. It symbolized something but I am not exactly sure what.

Yes I do like how it ended because it explains everything that happened  in the end. Like the meeting with tom in the town after couple of months and what he said about Wilson coming to his house trying to kill him. This made me realize how he found out about Jay and why he killed him. It was because tom told him it was his car and he killed his wife. He even lied in the movie and said that maybe it was Gatsby who had affair with his wife while it was him doing the crime. But over all the ending was good and it also explained to nick when he finished the  book.
I really hoped Jay Gatsby lives a happy life but sadly this is a book and I already knew it would not happen.

Blog post 18

I did not expect for Gatsby to die. I hoped he would have a nice happy life with daisy. He would marry her and live happily ever after. I like happy endings but of course if this story was a happy ending it wouldn't be so famous. I was also mad at Daisy when she did not tell tom that she loved Gatsby. I think it was all daisy's fault. She did the accident and did not take blame for it. It was because of her Wilson thought Gatsby did the accident and went after Gatsby to kill. Daisy even lied to tom and kept the truth. To be honest she is smart little b***h. She tried to herself out of trouble and betrayed the man who loved her the most. I think she never loved Gatsby all she loved was his money. Yes i would prefer to have the last chapter because of the beginning of the book. The book starts with nick talking to his doctor and what made him write the book, If he ended the story it would look incomplete and would not make sense. I am glad that the book did not end here. It would be me really sad. I would also not be able to figure out the real face of people like Daisy. She did not even come to the funeral. That is just sick!! At least she could have attempt to come even she did not care about him. It makes me so sad that there was no one at the funeral except nick and Mr. Gatz. This shows that money is not important only true friendship bonds matter.

The collage presentation was not that helpful because she only gave the facts about finances and real life but she did not tell how to handle them and deal with it. she was just telling random facts but it would have been helpful if she gave tips and strategies to plan out collage finances. To be honest it was a waste of time.

Nice question Mr. Vazquez!!! I do think two wrongs make a right because than they are equal and one wont regret not doing anything. For example in my personal opinion if my husband cheated on me and I knew about it and if he still continuous to see a woman than it would give me right to cheat on him too. First of all I would ask for a divorce and in any circumstances I can not divorce him than my husband show give me right to cheat on him as well. That is the only way to make things equal. I understand that back in the day adultery was not a big issue however it was very common for a man to commit adultery. This is 21st century so I would expect my husband to give me the same rights he has or I can divorce him. I definitely think it is okay for Daisy to cheat on Tom because Tom has many women, he probably has different woman every day. Even in the Gatsby's party he went to go see a woman who was an actress or in my words a slut. I would not come in a way of love birds like Gatsby and Daisy. They already loved each other so much and they knew each other since 5 years. because of some circumstances like war for Gatsby they had to split and Daisy was forced to marry Tom even though she said she did not want to marry him. Now they have seen each other and are reunited I would not sop them for having an affair and continuance of their love life. If I were Daisy I would go to tom right away and tell him I do not love him and I am marrying Gatsby. Unfortunately this was not the case in this book. I feel very sympathetic towards Gatsby and Myrtle because they love somebody they know they cant have and they know it is hard to get them. Even both are trying very hard they will have to end up loosing their love and eventually move on.

Blog Post 15

The gatsby shares so many of his secrets and his past life with us. He also revels everything he use to do when he was young and what he does now. He even mentioned his intentions to Jordan Baker. He said he was from a rich family from middle easy but than he had a  tradition of going to oxford. He said he was also in the war and a soldier in M island. This is a very long story and Gatsby is a very young man in his early thirties. I do not believe he could have done everything he mentioned in short amount of time. He also had a huge mansion which cannot be bought in just few years. Like how did he get all the money because I know he is lying to us. I do not believe is story at all. Some of maybe true like the part where he went to the war but the rest just looks a big fat lie. He had to ask a gambler to say some nice things about him to nick so that he could believe in his story. But when Tom came he left. First I didnt know why he left but after the explanation from Jordan Baker everything was as clear as water. Gatsby had another mystery that no on knew about except Jordan. That was that he loved Daisy so much when he was young and Daisyy loved hi as well too. But he had to go to war and she thought he must have died but the day before her wedding she recieved a letter from Gatsby which no one knew what wad written in it. After reading the letter she did not want to marry Tom but it looks like she was forced to. After that Daisy never mentioned Gatsby in her life until when Nick came to her house that evening, He wanted to be open because he wanted to know nick something about himself and didnt want to be nobody. I am thinking he wants Nick to help with him meeting Daisy so he could get her back. I feel like all the phone calls are for some drug deals and for gambling. That is how he got so much money.

Blog Post 14

I dont have any issue with Nick as a narrator because he mention int the novel that he was one of the honest people he med in his life. This means whatever he says is candid and comes from his heart. There may be a different perspectives but most people in Nick place would think the same. I feel like he does follow the crowd and he is trying to make an identity for himself in the new city, New York. He meets many people he has never seen before like Daisy. hey both are cousins but daisy says she does not know him as well. Nick is trying to make good relationship with the rich people so he can profit in his bond business. He is also one of the few people who met Gatsby and is going on a helicopter ride with him. I would not go if someone asked me because I have just met the person I would not go out with them the next day. Therefore, I think Nick is just following the crowd to make himself more famous. In the novel he mentions himself that follow some strangers to their apartment and wait for them to go in. This shows how he cares about what other people do and what other people thinks. It is very creepy for someone to follow them in my opinion.

The research part was easy but when it came time to put everything together and make sense of it was very difficult. I had all sorts of fact and information but I had no idea what should go where. It took me hours to write only 7 page essay. At the end it was so difficult to write because I was running out of things to say and I felt i was repeating things. I would not say I enjoyed it because it was very stressful but I did learn something out of it. One of which was not to procrastinate and second was re read the paper out loud to catch mistakes. Yes that was the case because I would search some facs put it in my paper and think I have no idea what to do with this but as you keep thinking great ideas pop in your minds and you come up with some amazing things to say.

Blog post 13

Yes , the video helped so much. I definitely went back and re did my work cited page. I also cited in my actual paper.  The n.p. is not important because it let's reader know that you were irresponsible and did not your research as closely. The paper will look credited and the citation wouldn't look complete if you  do not add them.

Part 2
The eyes of doctor represents that there is someone watching over the valley of ashes. The eyes know everything that is going on in valley of ashes. The way that eyes are represented looks like it also knows the secret that many people don't know. The valley of ashes represents the the difference between west egg and easy egg. It also shows about two places are very different by that small peace of valley in between. The valley also hides the dark secrets of both eggs and it also represent the mixture of both sides. I don't like myrtle very much because her husband is working his butt off at work and gas station while she is here having fun with Tom and her friends. I don't think this is right and when his husband finds out he will be very mad and there might be some tragedy in future. I think myrtle likes tom very much and tom is trapped in her games Instead! She enjoys her freedom and free stuff very much. Therefore, she keeps on calling toms house because she is scared she might loose him.  They even fought because of daisy. Myrtle is jealous of her because she keeps on talking about her to tom and tom got mad and hit her very hard. But i don't think it was necessary because he could have just explained it to her and she would have stop saying her name. I can see Tom's point of view on this issue. He thought it was important to hit her because she had to know who was the boss and who had the money. He also might respect daisy and don't want anyone saying anything bad about her. I think Nick is just a bystander witnessing everything occurring around hum, He is also willing to help them by keeping the secrets that can mess everything up. He knows too much about the people and I think that is the reason why he is so frustrated and wanted to share these secrets with someone. He just wanted to lessen his guilt of knowing all the secrets and he did that by writing a book.

Douglass and Privileges

In the novel the narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, there are many references to the privileges. For example Frederick talks about white privileges, black privileges, privileges of slave holders, slave privileges ( even though they do not have many).  As Douglass learns more from his life he revels all new privileges. For example in the book he says how slaves have no privileges to stay with their family, or they are not close to the families that much. This is a privilege slaves do not get to have. As Frederick experience deep southern slavery he also mentions how when a master is talking to the slave they have no right to speak back to them, all they can do is stand there listen to them and get sever punishments without saying a word. From his life one important privilege Frederick talked about was privilege to be a free colored man. he experienced that when he escaped from slavery and went north. He also mentioned how he cannot describe how happy he was. every time he wants to add or say something new whenever someone asks of his experience. This is a privilege Frederick fought for all of his life and was successful, however some of his friends could not make it and they were sent back to slavery again. He mentions in the novel how sorry he felt and how much he was close to them.

The end of the story was significant because Fredrick wanted us to how much difficulty and harsh time he had to go through until he finally found freedom. I also think he wrote his biography because he wanted people to know how hard and cruel it is to be a slave, the way slaveholders treated slaves, the attempts for salves to escape, and the background of southern slavery. The main thing I saw in the appendix was allusion to religion and bible. In the novel he explain how becoming a christian made slaveholder become more harsh and cruel. He wanted us to see the life of past and appreciate the present we have now. He also wanted to inform us about the northern states and abolitionist. There were good people too.

Civil Disobedience

Thoreau justifies civil disobedience by nit paying taxes because he does not support the war. He thinks war only kills many people without solving problems therefore he wont pay taxes which goes towards supporting the war materials and resources. He uses principles of Transcendentalists because just like Transcendentalists he believes that one should follow his own heat and leave a trail for others to follow instead of following someone else path or road. He also believes that one should do what they think its right instead of following someone else opinions. They should always give their opinion and stick to it. He also used the principles of nonviolence. I have learned about many protest of civil disobedience through out history. for example the famous Rosa Park who set in the front of the bus even tho she was suppose to sit in the back because she was african american. This shows civil disobedience because she was doing what she thought it was right instead of someone else thoughts. She also did not break any law or commit any fraud She was just supporting what she believed in. The another example is Mahatma Gandhi who also used nonviolence and civil disobedience to support the protest and gather many people to do the same. He also has been to jail like Thoreau for believing in what he thought was right. Civil Disobedience is the way because it does not harm or kill anyone. It is also peaceful way of protest but there are chances of you being in a big trouble or might have to go to prison like Gandhi and Thoreau. Civil Rights must be inspired because it gave them a strong reason and a great principle to fight for. Such as fight for what you believe in. Therefore, many people are affected by this text.
I am passionate about destroying or eliminating racism and class issues. I know this sounds very undoable or impossible but we can always dream and make it possible, I think if racism was destroyed than we would have less problems in this society. We would all be friendly to each other and actually act like human beings instead of not treating someone right just because they have different skin color. I  treat everybody same no matter what color, race, ethnicity or country they are. I am sure we will be able to eliminate racism if all thought that.

Thinking about the future

Yes, Collage will be here soon. I want to major in Biology and minor in religion because I love learning about different religions and cultures and way people think. Therefore, I want to minor in religion. I also want to do something in health care field and I love knowing thing about human body and biology in general. So thinking my future in my mind, I want to major in biology.
I would want to stay in North Carolina because it is a beautiful place, it has nice weather! not too hot or not too cold. Also because in state tuition fess are less. I want to go to University of Chapel Hill because they have a great medical program and it is also a public university thus not more money to pay for collage. I also want to go their because it is one of the most competitive collage of North Carolina and I love competitive challenges, and going to chapel hill is my next challenge.
I have done research for some universities that I want to go to. I have looked at their qualifications and their median SAT and ACT scores. I also looked at the median GPA and courses they require me to take in High School. I haven't done in depth research yet because I have not had time to do that yet.
My biggest fears of collage is being able to find my classes on the first day and living in the campus without my parents is going to really difficult for me. I rely on my mom to do chores for me like laundry, cook and clean but now that I will be in collage I will have to do all these things and study hard at the same time. My another big fear is being able to get an A in all my classes because I know collage is not nearly easy as high school. I am also scared about my Time Management because I am a slow reader and I need to take notes on things I read which takes a lot of time and I am not sure if I will be able to do that in collage.

Turner and Tea Cake

Mrs Turner is very interesting character in this book. She is black herself but she dislikes black people. Therefore, she tends to hang out with light skinned people more like Janie. She likes Janie and she always at her house to talk to her. Janie knows she does not like nigger talks so she does not talk about Tea Cake with her. I think she was brave enough o tell Janie that she should have not married a guy like Tea Cake instead she should have married her brother or  her son who deserved her. Most of the other African Americans in this book does not talk trash about themselves and are living together as family. But Mrs Turner hates other black people and she things they are bunch of monkeys fooling around all the time. I think she is dealing with Internal Racism because she hates black people and she says even when she is dying she does not want a black doctor to come check her! She would rather die. She like white people and that the reason why she likes Janie. Tea Cake hated her too because he heard her trying to hook Janie u with her son. Tea Cake told Janie not to listen to that old women because all she wanted was her money that is in the bank account. Tea Cake also gathered all the black people in the town to fight her for saying that but they actually did not fight her. Overall, Mrs Turners character was little wired in this type of book.

I was shocked too that Tea Cake hit Janie but I am surprised that Janie didn't say anything back to Tea Cake. Janie seemed like she was used to this and she enjoyed it because she didn't stop tea Cake. If I were Janie I would tell him to stop since she has been through this same thing before with Jody. I think Janie should have stopped Tea Cake when he went around telling the whole town what he did to her and she didn't say anything back. Townspeople were surprised too because their wife would yell at them for whole day and would hit them back, which is what I would have done.

The Era of Tea Cake

The story of Annie Taylor was in the same situation Janie was in. Annie Taylor had left the top and sold her house and took all her money to go with a guy she loved. She thought he loved her back as well. The Guy was younger than Annie. But after few weeks the guy stole all her money and left her at the strange place. Annie found her way back to Eatonville and from than own townspeople think if you go away with a guy you will end up in the same situation as Annie Taylor. Townspeople often related this story to Janie's life because Janie is in the same situation as Annie Taylor and people thing Janie will come back to Eatonville with all her money stolen just like Annie. I think Janie will end up in the same place as Annie because in the beginning of  the movie Janie comes back to Eatonville.

I would feel Degrading because someone is kicking me out of place because I am ugly would definitely make me mad but I also find one thing funny than Tea Cake is giving money for these people to go out. I would just take the money and leave because I will be $2 richer.

I think Muck symbolizes Janie's freedom because now she can talk, laugh and listen to others talk without someone telling her to got to house and cook.  She feels free and she can now take part in the community and talk silly with others. Tea Cake doesn't mind Janie doing all that.

Nunkie is a girl who works at he filed and pick beans just like Tea Cake and Janie. Nunkie has a crush on Tea Cake and she often tries to get his attention by touching him and falling so that Tea Cake would come help her up. Once she went as far as stealing something from Tea Cake's shirt so he would run after her and took him in the Sugar cane field. She is important because she makes Janie jealous, something Janie has never felt before. Therefore, she gets mad at Tea Cake and tries to hit him but Tea Cake doesn't not give up on his love for Janie and Janie soon realizes that how deeply she is in love with Tea Cake.

The Eyes were watching God: Changes

A. Childhood: While Janie was young she grew with the white folks, therefore, she thought she was white too. When she got older her nanny told her to see her face in the mirror and she realized she is colored and thus different than the rest. This idea did make her unhappy but she knew how colored people were treated and what position they had in the society. When she was seventeen she had a special connection with the nature. She felt different around nature and she was a different person. When Janie was caught kissing the black person her nanny got mad at her and decided to tell her the truth about who she really is and where her mother was. Nanny told her Janie how hardship she had to face and what her mother had to go through. Nanny taught Janie a big lesson and explained how she was half white and half black. Nanny also wanted Janie to get married to a rich person like Mr. Killcs and she did that before nanny died. From her childhood, Janie learned a big lesson about how money is everything but it doesn't buy happiness.

B. Logan: When Janie lived with Logan she learned how to take of house and cook but she also wondered a lot in the nature and Logan often go angry at her for wondering around everyday and not finishing the tasks she was given. Logan often threaten her but she knew he never meant that. One of the thing she leaned was land and money does not but happiness because she was always bored and lonely. On top she had a 60 year old husband to deal with everyday. I could never be able to live with that old man but apparently Janie figured that out later and finally left him.

C. Jody: She actually loved Jody when she first met him. She was happy and always their with him but as Jody gains more dignity and power he takes away most of Janie's freedom. Jody thought since Janie is a mayors wife she has to act more lady like and not talk to people in the town or laugh and have  a good time with them. Jody also made Janie tied her hair because he was jealous how other men gazed at her beauty. Janie hated the idea and also argued with Jody about that but eventually she had to do what Jody asked her. At the end Jody was being to mean to Janie. Jody was getting old and Janie was still young and beautiful therefore he always called Janie an old women in front of everyone to be ashamed off. Janie got mad about that and talked backed to Jody. Jody was angry and slapped her in front of everybody. After that they lived apart until Jody died. Janie learned a lot from this and she often felt sad and unhappy. She was also lonely but she wanted everything between her and Jody to be right. It was just not possible form Jody being so respectful in town and Janie didn't follow what Jody told her. Janie also learned that money does not buy happiness.

The Crucible Movie: Multimedia Project

Crucible portfolio Act 4

I. Literary term
a) Tragedy: series of unfortunate events by which one or more of the more literacy characters in the story undergo several misfortunes, which ends up being a disaster.
"He has his goodness now, god forbid I take it from him." (miller 1334)
b) Elizabeth says these lines when John Proctor finally agreed not to confess and rather hang himself. This shows tragedy because I thought John Proctor was suppose to get out of all this mess but at the end Abigail was free and John had to die for a crime he didn't commit.

II. Quotation Elation
a) "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hanged! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul, live me my name!
Because of these reason John proctor decided not to confess because he valued his name too much than his death.
b) After Proctor realized that he doesn't want his name get a bad reputation in the town and than live his life. He just wanted his name to be clean and because the judges said he has to give the confession letter he changed his mind and said he would rather die than live with bad name.

III. Characters
a) Rebecca: Innocent, old, nurse
b) Purpose: the reason why she is in the play is to explain us that even you had really good reputation people still accused you of witchcraft. Rebecca was a old kind and charitable person, people still hanged her. but the odd thing was when she was taken for hanging she was the only person whom others prayed for and said things such as "god bless you, Rebecca"
c) She would get hanged and die. People will regret she got hanged.

Junior Exit: Outline

I. Introduction
 a) Thesis Statement: To treat themselves with diseases people uses antibiotics but some people are getting more sick by taking unnecessary antibiotics causing antibiotic resistance bacteria. These bacteria's are hard to kill and sometimes not treatable at all causing people to die and this is becoming a major issue in our society.
II. Reason 1: Long term effect of misusing antibiotics
a) SD: Antibiotics are important drugs. It would be difficult to overstate the benefit penicillin and other antibiotics have played in treating bacterial infections, preventing the spread of disease and minimizing serious complications of disease. But there is also a problem with antibiotic medications. Drugs that used to be standard treatments for bacterial infections are now less effective or don't work at all. When an antibiotic drug no longer has an effect on a certain strain of bacteria, those bacteria are said to be antibiotic resistant. The overuse and misuse of antibiotics are key factors contributing to antibiotic resistance.
b) SD: The overuse of antibiotics — especially taking antibiotics even when they're not the appropriate treatment — promotes antibiotic resistance. Antibiotics treat bacterial infections but not viral infections. If you take an antibiotic when you actually have a viral infection, the antibiotic is still attacking bacteria in your body — bacteria that are either beneficial or at least not causing disease. This misdirected treatment can then promote antibiotic-resistant properties in harmless bacteria that can be shared with other bacteria.
II. Reason 2: Consequences of Antibiotics bacteria resistance
a) SD: For many years, the introduction of new antibiotics outpaced the development of antibiotic resistance. In recent years, however, the pace of drug resistance has contributed to an increasing number of health care problems. In the United States, according to a 2013 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 2 million people annually "acquire serious infections with bacteria that are resistant to one or more of the antibiotics designed to treat those infections." And at least 23,000 people die annually from antibiotic-resistant infections.
b) SD: The increasing number of drug-resistant infections results in: More-serious illness or disability, more deaths from previously treatable illnesses, prolonged recovery, more frequent and longer hospitalization, more doctor visits, less effective or more invasive treatment, more expensive treatments.
III. Reason 3: Antibiotic Stewardship
a) SD: The appropriate use of antibiotics — often called antibiotic stewardship — can help preserve the effectiveness of current antibiotics, extend their life span and protect the public from antibiotic-resistant infections. Many hospitals and medical associations have implemented new diagnostic and treatment guidelines to ensure effective treatments for bacterial infections and reduce inappropriate use of antibiotics.
b) SD: The public also plays a role in antibiotic stewardship. You can help reduce the development of antibiotic resistance by taking the following steps:
-Then list the steps...

Act 3

I. Literary Term
a) Verbal Irony: is when what is said is opposite to literal meaning.
Example: "The pure in heart need no lawyers" (miller 1297)
b) There are many verbal and dramatic irony in Act 3 and this quote is one of them. It takes place when John Proctor, Giles and Mary Warren went see the Judge to tell the truth about the girls. Hale wants them to have a lawyer to support themselves with experienced person and that is when Judge Danforth says the pure in heart needs to lawyers. Maybe he was trying to say proctor was lying.

II. Quotation Elation
a) "I- I have no Power!"  (miller 1313)
b) This quote is said by Mary warren when the girls were accusing her of sending spirits on them. I think Mary thought that if she said bad things about Abigail she will be the one in trouble and may receive punishments. Therefore to save herself, she changed the side and left Proctor hanging. I knew this was going to happen. By the quote I knew Mary would betray John Proctor.

III. Characters
a) Elizabeth: Innocent, Scared, Mother
b) Purpose: She was a important part of the play because if she the reason why Abigail started the whole witchcraft thing. Abigail wanted John Proctor to be the love of her life but she couldn't get it back as long as Elizabeth was around. So she accused innocent Elizabeth and she is the reason why Proctor was fighting against the court to save his wife. Instead, Proctor and Elizabeth will both end up dying.
c) Outcome: After she gives birth to her child she will be hanged like the rest of the people.

Thesis Statement

Step 1
Stance; Antibiotics are misused
Reasons; diseases, resistance bacteria, public health, unnecessary use

Step 2
People uses antibiotics for viral infections which doesn't improve your health but risks it. Eating unnecessary antibiotics causes antibiotic resistance bacteria and it is tough to kill resistance bacteria. The number of people dying from resistance bacteria increasing rapidly. We need to inform people of this major health issues and educate them with using Antibiotics.

Step 3
Thesis Statement: To treat themselves with diseases people uses antibiotics but people are getting more sick by taking unnecessary antibiotics causing antibiotics resistance bacteria. These bacteria's are hard to kill and sometimes not treatable at all, which causes major health issue in our society.

Act 2

I. Literary terms
a) Imagery: The author uses words or phrase to create a mental image in readers mind.
Ex: " I will fall like an ocean on that court, fear nothing Elizabeth" (Miller 1285)
b) This examples show the strong feeling of Proctor when his wife Elizabeth was accused of witchcraft. She was being taken to the court with other women accused with witchcraft. Proctor was very angry and this is when Proctor says that he will get Elizabeth out of the court no matter what. He will fall like an ocean on the court if he has to.

II. Quotation Elation
a) "It is a providence and no great change; we are only what we always were, but naked now. Aye, Naked! and the wind, Gods's icy wind will blow!" (Miller 1287) The effect of this quote would be Proctor will commit his crime of adultery and convince Abigail to take the accusation back.
b) I think Abigail accused Elizabeth because she is jealous of her. Abigail Loves John Proctor but Proctor doesn't love him anymore and he is happy with his wife Elizabeth. Abigail still wants Proctor to be the lover of her life and wants to remove Elizabeth from John's life. Therefore she accused Elizabeth. The Crucible Portfolio Act 1

I. Literary terms
a) Simile: The comparison with one thing to another thing of a different kind to make description more vivid.
Ex: "I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near." (Miller 1246)
b) This example makes comparison between how John Proctor felt when he had affair with Abigail. She is comparing john proctor with stallion because  they sweat a lot. John Proctor was nervous around Abigail that she might tell their affair to his wife. therefore, he sweated a lot.

II. Quotation Elation
A) Abigail: in tears - "I look for John Proctor that took me from my sleep and put knowledge in my heart! I never knew what pretense Salem was! I never new the lying lessons I was taught by all these christian women and their covenanted men! and now you bid me tear the light of my eyes? I will not, I cannot! You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever seen it is, you love me yet! he runs abruptly to go out. She ruses to him. John, pity me, pity me!" (Miller 1247)
This makes a plot because now we know Abigail loves John Proctor and she really wants him back but Proctor is ignoring Abigail and tells her to forget what happened and leave him alone. Abigail on the other hand would do anything to get John Proctor back! Even kill him for betraying her.
b) This quote is from Act 1 when John Proctor comes to visit Betty who has been "witched". Abigail knows Proctor and looks like she had an affair with him. Proctor already has a wife and because John Proctor is ignoring Abigail, she wants to kill Proctor's wife and she is thinking she might get his love of her life back. Therefore, I think Abigail might kill John Proctor and ask Proctor to marry her. If Proctor deny's she might kill him too for betraying her.

III. Characters
Abigail
Description: manipulative, psychotic, unmarried
Purpose: I think she is the villain in this play because she wanted to kill John Proctors wife, she is lying to her uncle Parris, and she is accusing innocent people of witchcraft. She is hiding her motives because she is going to do something horrible.
Outcome: People might blame her for what happended to betty. People will blame her being the devil worshiper and accused of being a witch. She will be hanged to death.

Post 6: Accusation

yes, there were many statements that I strongly agreed or disagreed. For example the statement about the confessing the crime I didn't commit. I would never confess a crime I didn't commit because if I confess the crime than people might see me different way or may think differently of me. The other statement that I strongly disagree to is justice is best determined in a court. I agree that the court system is the best way of determining what is right or wrong with proper evidence but I still don't think its the best way to get justice. The judge or jury may be biased and everyone has different opinions on different issue therefore make the jury totally biased against typically race, person or beliefs.
Even I don't know why I feel so strongly maybe its my gut feeling which I cant explain. Even my mind doesn't know why particular statement is right or wrong. By listening to my peers opinion I can see there are many ways to interpret a sentence. I mostly agreed to what everyone had to say. There were some sentences that mostly everyone agreed to and there were some that had class split. The discussion on different opinions was nice when people started sharing their own opinion and started arguing about some topics. Overall I like class discussion it really helps understand the different views of thing.
Many students said man things and many students were quiet as well. The discussion got heated up but it was fun at the same time. I just told my opinion if I disagreed or not but that's it I don't have anything else to add to it because people already said what I wanted to say.

There have been many times I have been accused of something.  I cant think of a specific example at this point. I hated when people accused me of something I didn't do like take someone phone and hide it or take someones food. I get angry at the person accusing me because they just blame everything on you because you were by the thing stole or taken. They don't even think before speaking and starts yelling at others for no reason. I feel like the person should try and make an effort to finding what they lost and if cant find it ask for help instead of accusing someone for taking it. After the person finds what they are looking for I want to slap them across the face and be like you see I didn't touch your stuff. Te person accusing me probably wont care and start behave normally without apologizing for accusing me. End the result would the person starts doing what they were doing and I would start doing whatever I was doing.

Title: Antibiotic resistance
Author: Medicine Net

The argument is persuasive and this article gives a little bit of history of the antibiotic resistance bacteria.  The microbes are living organisms that reproduce, thrive, and spread quickly and efficiently. Microbes include bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, which causes some staph infection), viruses (e.g., influenza, which causes the flu), fungi (e.g., Candida albicans, which causes some yeast infections), and parasites (e.g., Plasmodium falciparum, which causes malaria).
Antimicrobial is a general term given to medicines that kill or slow the growth of microbes. But when the microbes get resisted to the antibiotic they reproduce and is impossible to kill it. There are data in this article which has pictures that shows the bacteria are grown and what people do to increases the antibiotic resistance bacteria. Author of this article shows the history of how antibiotics were made. It sates that "In 1928 while working with Staphylococcus bacteria, Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming noticed that a type of mold growing by accident on a laboratory plate was protected from, and even repelled, the bacteria. The active substance, which Fleming called penicillin, was literally an antibiotic-it killed living organisms. It also states the problem with the antibiotics,
After more than 70 years of widespread use, evolution of disease-causing microbes also has resulted in many antimicrobials losing their effectiveness. As microbes evolve, they adapt to their environments. If something stops them from growing and spreading-such as an antimicrobial-they evolve new mechanisms to resist the antimicrobials by changing their genetic structure. Changing the genetic structure ensures that the offspring of the resistant microbes also are resistant. Antimicrobial resistance makes it harder to eliminate infections from the body. As a result of a microbe's ability to survive in the presence of antimicrobials, some infectious diseases are now more difficult to treat than they were just a few decades ago. In fact, antimicrobials have helped people so effectively that humans are hurting the protective value of medicines through overuse and misuse. More prudent use of antimicrobials will help to slow the development of resistance.
This is not the primary text but the information on this text is relevant and useful. I didn't know There are differences between this article and the other article because this article explain the history while the other articles explains the consequences and careless mistakes of people. The critical question could be answered by this article but also many question can be brought up because the history can't always be true. It is always interpreted.

Title: Antimicrobial resistance
Author: World Health Organization (WHO)

The argument is very persuasive, This article gives facts, graphs, pictures and data to make the argument more persuasive by supporting it with evidence. This is a factual topic and is supported by the world health organization and we can also tell this is a global issue and is very important concern globally. This is a factual article and there is no bias in it. Therefor it is not compelling to others. The author of the article states antibacterial resistance facts, explain what it means, and it also gives examples of major diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, HIV and many more. The best thing about this article is that it gives facts about what percent of the population was affected by the antimicrobial resistance bacteria and supports all the evidence by the research conducted by the world health organization. Author wants to make sure that public health is safe and people understands that antibiotic resistance bacteria is a major growing concern and could be dangerous to our health if we don't take any actions now. Author mentions the actions such as following the doctor instructions and taking precautions while using any type of antibiotics. The author also mentions to complete the full treatment course and always make sure you take your medication course everyday as prescribed by the doctor. This is a primary text because it is written by the world health organization, the organization that is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends. From this article I have many facts and statistics I could use in my research paper. It is also more useful than the other article because it has more accurate information. This article sees at the global concern not just national level or locals. All the articles that I have found so far all explain the antibiotic resistance bacteria but this article gives more global statistics on particular diseases in particular countries. When taking about this article their might be some questions brought up but it answers my questions and supports my thesis statement.

Title: Antibiotic resistance bacteria
Author: Better Health channel

The argument is very persuasive it makes others want to do something about thus public health problem. Now that I have read this article I am more confident about my topic and the community awareness. All the data's are supported by facts and some also gives the precautions you should take for not causing more antibiotic resistance bacteria. Such as use personal hygiene techniques such as washing your hands, using hand sanitize, using tissue to wipe out the nose and keeping public area clean. No the data is the same in all three articles and s very useful for my topic. Author has used backgrounds information on the topic such as how antibiotics cannot kill antibiotics resistance bacteria. The author also explains how more bacteria's are being antibiotic resistance, and ways to prevent the resistance bacteria. Author thinks that the resistance bacteria can be avoided if people takes the necessary precautions and listen to the doctor. The is primary text because it is a government website and all the information on the article is for people to have more information about the important public health issue. By reading this you can interpret that antibiotic resistance bacteria are increasing and cause a mess in our world, if we don't take this seriously it will b a major problem such as global warming. We should also treat antibiotics fairly because it is because of these medicines many diseases such as TB, strep throat, and many more are being cured. Without it our world would be  different place. This article unlike the other two article focuses more on the antibiotic resistance bacteria, while the other two article focused on the misuse of antibiotics. There are some similarities such as the precautions and to stop the unnecessary use. This article supports the point made in the other two article.

Title: Antibiotics are always answer
Author: Centers for Disease control and prevention (CDC)

The argument is not persuasive because this article mainly has all the things you should do or not do while taking an antibiotic and it also states what kind of infections are treated by the antibiotic and what kinds are not. For example only bacterial infections are treated but viral infections are not treated by the antibiotics. There are data in this article that supports my argument and is very persuasive in informing others for the overuse of the antibiotic. It mentions when to take antibiotics and when to stop taking it. Always to finish your medication course so all the bacteria dies out completely in your body. Therefore, decreasing the risk of causing the drug resistance bacteria. This article is straight forward and there are some data's that may be more important to get readers attention but according to me all the data's are as important. Author is trying to inform people what things to do and what not to do, when you should take antibiotics and when you should avoid it. Author is assuming for everyone to take the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor and not to overuse it or not to stop using it until your treatment course has been completed. Sometimes may people stops taking antibiotics when they start to feel better and never complete the medication course, this causes the drug resistance bacteria and there are more chances of you getting sick with the same bacteria again! This is the primary text because it come from the CDC the government organization who controls and prevents diseases. This text gives further details on what diseases is bacterial and virus infection. There are many similarities between this article and the mayo clinic article. Both of them shows the harmful effects and how the misuse of antibiotics causes drug resistance bacteria. The critical question of how to avoid or prevent the misuse has been answered in the articles of the mayo clinic and CDC. It states that we should not use antibiotics in viral infections because viruses can't be destroyed by antibiotics only bacteria can.

Title: Misuse of Antibiotics
Author: Mayo Clinic

I think the topic is persuasive because it is a very serious issues that is related wit peoples consumer- health. Many people across the country  doesn't know about this particular issue and when they learn more about it people they would think twice before taking any antibiotics. There are also many facts, data and statistics on this particular issue that it will help my topic more persuasive. The article supports the misuse and explains the consequences in details. It also shows how commonly bacteria such as flu, coughs, sore throats and ear infections aren't cured by the antibiotics but people take antibiotics anyway.
The data used in this article is supported by the factual evidence and it is mainly states the after consequences of misuse for example causing drug resistance bacteria. There are no other evidence in the article that will weaken my argument .
The author makes assumptions that how people misguide doctors prescription or doesn't follow doctors note and take unnecessary antibiotics they don't need. The primary text of this article could be the interview with the doctor or the book written by the doctor but I don't think it would change he way people interpret this article because it is a article by mayo clinic a reliable source of the information.
By reading this article I leaned some new hings and some things I already knew from the biology class. We learned about the antibiotic resistance bacteria and how it reproduces to grow more resistance bacterium. From this article I learned about the report from the centers of Diseases control and Prevention. I learned that many people are dying today because they had drug resistance bacteria in their body and couldn't find stronger antibiotic to kill the bacteria. Now that I have learned people are dying from these careless and unknown mistakes I need to make sure I create awareness in my community and save people lives. This is the first article so there are no connection to it. It definitely engages in the critical question of the topic and supports with the factual evidence.

I want to do my research paper on global issues. This may not be my final topic but it is what I am going with right now. I want to do my research paper on Antibiotics. The use of antibiotics throughout US has increased significantly that the antibiotics doesn't affect us anymore.
This topic is interesting to me because I feel like this is a major issue that many people don't know about and people needs to get warned before it becomes inevitable problem. I also think antibiotics are the best inventions in the medical field. Due to antibiotics millions of lives have been saved and it has been an important part of medication.
It is relevant because there is no bias to it. It is a factual topic that doesn't have two sides to it. It is also an important and interesting topic that many people don't know about.
I should be able to find many research materials from it. There are many sources where I can find the information about this topic, I can use online websites and also interview doctors to ask their side of view on the topic. Antibiotics are very famous anybody can search and find out many things about the symptoms, side effects and the misuse.
My topic is how antibiotics are misused and cause extremely resistance germs/bacteria. I don't think it's broad because it is a question and is narrowed enough. I don't think it too narrow because it is not very specific.
My topic is not controversial because it is a factual topic and there are no opinion or sides to it. There is no sides to it or someone cant say its false because it is scientifically proven to be an issue.
I have heard to use primary and secondary source in the research paper. Not to plagiarize someone else work or copy it from the internet. Always have work cited page to give credit to the websites or people who gave the information. You also need a creative title for the paper to get readers attention. Have a strong thesis statement and have introduction, body paragraph and conclusion. Always review the paper and read out loud to hear the mistake.

I didn't have a good experience with the poetry. It has always been hard for me to understand poetry and figure out the moral behind it. I think it was because of the poetry my EOC's scores went down. I have hard time understanding haiku because a lot of problem, theme and background are wrote in only three lines. It is not that I hate poems I love them, I like how they rhyme, I like how they give a very important message  and how so many feeling are expressed in only few lines. Once I understand a poem I feel like it was the best thing someone can write and I also praise the poet who writes amazing poems.
I find it difficult to understand because sometimes the words that poet uses to rhyme the poem is type of words that I have never heard before. Also, so many feelings and emotions are shown behind those few lines of poetry that I miss out what the poem is trying to say. I think Haiku is the most difficult poem to understand because it has so much less detail and a big meaning behind it.
Some tips and strategies that I learned is to always summarize each paragraph of the poem, check if the poem rhymes, and figure out the most redundant line in the poem because all these hints and clues leads to the main idea of the poem. I also learned to know the background information about the author because it helps you find out the theme of the poem.
The first poem My Dear and Loving Husband was facile to interpret because I read the background information about Anne Bradstreet first and from that I learned that she loved her husband so much she had eight kids and she wrote poems about her everyday life. She mentioned "love" so many times throughout the poem. She also mentioned how much she loved her husband and how love is priceless. No valley of gold could buy the love of her towards her husband. The second poem upon the burning was also easy to interpret because it had so much details and she made sure her message was clear that her house was burning and she couldn't do anything about it. All her valued items and memories were destroyed but it didn't take her trust away from the God, the theme of this poem was always having faith in god and he will always be there for you no matter what.
The puritan beliefs of trusting god and the importance of love were exemplified in her poems. She lived a simple life loving her husband and raising her eight children she was a strong puritan women who was educated and loved to write poems. Her poem also shows her trust and faith in God.

As we all know there are so many creative stories all around the world. One of my favorites is Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Mostly everyone has heard about this story. I love this story because it shows the background of the Italy and describes beautiful time of renaissance and middle ages. I also like how it shows that love at first sight is possible and it also how strong love towards someone could be. It teaches us an important life lesson that always wait don't make any decisions without thinking the consequences. Always think twice and have patience in life.
Well baked man story is also a very creative story. This type of stories are creative myths that helps understand why some things are the way they are. For example this story informs us how different color people were form and how coyote helped the magician (American Indian) understand how people were came to life. I also liked how oven was used as a symbol to make new color of people.
By reading this story I learned a lot about how Native Americans thinking. They used myths to answer their question and also used the symbols such as oven to make things easier to understand. We can also learn by the stories that coyotes were important part of Native Americans lives.
I so enjoyed making our creative stories with the group. It was a fun activity. The best part of this activity was listening and seeing everyone else's story. All the stories were very creative and everyone had a lot of fun doing this project. I hope we have similar kinds of activities in future as well. I enjoyed creating my own story too. It was hard to come up with a topic but after you knew what you were doing it turned out to be a good story and play.
In our story we used a villain which was a moth who discouraged the buttery saying that it can never fly, a mentor who was a bird who helped butterfly and encouraged it to fly, a trickster also the bird who gave the magic blanket to butterfly which made wings which helped the butterfly fly. The hero was the butterfly who wanted to fly and never gave up her hope and always dreamed of flying. At the end the butterfly was able to fly and live happily ever after.

The story Ribbons, was a very well written, interesting and thoughtful. In the beginning of the story Meredith was shown as a happiest person in the world but as you get deep into the story the cold hard truth comes up that Meredith has breast cancer and her boyfriend was dead. This story was filled with descriptive shades of pink and other colors. The mention of colors every paragraph made the story as colorful. I also liked the twist at the end of the story. I thought the moral of the story was that flashing the big smile on the face every day and dressing bright and colorful doesn't mean that person is always happy from inside.
There were many symbols like shades of pink mention the color of breast cancer awareness. The poems were the toughest symbol for describing the feelings of Meredith. I thought the whole story was a symbol for something bad about to occur. It was tough figuring out the symbols at first but after you read the whole story all the puzzle pieces started to make sense.
By going it over in class I had others opinion of the story and we together as class made great inferences about the story. I liked how we stopped every few paragraphs to discuss what had happen and dump our thoughts and share it with class. It made it a lot easier to understand the story as everyone had different opinions. I liked our class discussion because it gave out the general idea of the story and we got to hear the different interpretation and morals of the story.

There were many literary devices such as hyperbole used when referencing Meredith. It said that how God could see her (Meredith) from above the skies. Other literary device distinctio was mentioned, for example when author mentioned all the shade of pinks such as carnation, fandango, cerise, puce, salmon and roses. Author wanted to make sure that the reader thought of the shades of pink. Therefore, mentioning pink so many times. Author also used foreshadowing at the end of the story, how he left off by saying "hoping that tomorrow would be the day that all the burdens will be released from their shoulders and the truth will finally be reveled."

1. My rough time was when I had to move from India to United States. There was no specific cause for this rough time. My uncle was a US citizen and he had invited my parents and me to permanently move to US. Immigration to US was suppose to be a good thing but it was definitely a rough time for me.
2. I lost my homeland and my family in India. I also lost/ abandoned my childhood memories. Most of my family lives in India and now I can't stay in touch with them as often as I use to when I lived in India. I visit them once every two years but I feel like I lost that close connection with them.
3. I was a twelve years old when I moved, so I was confused, shocked, happy and sad at the same time. I didn't know what was right and wrong for me. One day I would be happy that hurrah I am  moving to a new country but than sad the other day that I have to leave my family and friends behind. I was also confused because I didn't know what the new country, people and culture was like. I was scared of the fact that I am going to be a stranger in a strange land.
4. Now that I look back at those days I definitely feel like my parents made the right decision by moving here. I am so glad that I moved here. I got use to American culture, it did take me while to adjust but now I got assimilated into the new country.
5. I gained many opportunities to prove myself in this society. I found better education, better living and better life. I also leaned many different things from a totally different culture. Most importantly I met new people made new friends and I got to experience two different countries. I also learned a lesson of life which is to gain something you have to lose something first.
