Crucible portfolio Act 4

I. Literary term
a) Tragedy: series of unfortunate events by which one or more of the more literacy characters in the story undergo several misfortunes, which ends up being a disaster.
"He has his goodness now, god forbid I take it from him." (miller 1334)
b) Elizabeth says these lines when John Proctor finally agreed not to confess and rather hang himself. This shows tragedy because I thought John Proctor was suppose to get out of all this mess but at the end Abigail was free and John had to die for a crime he didn't commit.

II. Quotation Elation
a) "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hanged! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul, live me my name!
Because of these reason John proctor decided not to confess because he valued his name too much than his death.
b) After Proctor realized that he doesn't want his name get a bad reputation in the town and than live his life. He just wanted his name to be clean and because the judges said he has to give the confession letter he changed his mind and said he would rather die than live with bad name.

III. Characters
a) Rebecca: Innocent, old, nurse
b) Purpose: the reason why she is in the play is to explain us that even you had really good reputation people still accused you of witchcraft. Rebecca was a old kind and charitable person, people still hanged her. but the odd thing was when she was taken for hanging she was the only person whom others prayed for and said things such as "god bless you, Rebecca"
c) She would get hanged and die. People will regret she got hanged.
