The Crucible Portfolio Act 1
I. Literary terms
a) Simile: The comparison with one thing to another thing of a different kind to make description more vivid.
Ex: "I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near." (Miller 1246)
b) This example makes comparison between how John Proctor felt when he had affair with Abigail. She is comparing john proctor with stallion because they sweat a lot. John Proctor was nervous around Abigail that she might tell their affair to his wife. therefore, he sweated a lot.
II. Quotation Elation
A) Abigail: in tears - "I look for John Proctor that took me from my sleep and put knowledge in my heart! I never knew what pretense Salem was! I never new the lying lessons I was taught by all these christian women and their covenanted men! and now you bid me tear the light of my eyes? I will not, I cannot! You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever seen it is, you love me yet! he runs abruptly to go out. She ruses to him. John, pity me, pity me!" (Miller 1247)
This makes a plot because now we know Abigail loves John Proctor and she really wants him back but Proctor is ignoring Abigail and tells her to forget what happened and leave him alone. Abigail on the other hand would do anything to get John Proctor back! Even kill him for betraying her.
b) This quote is from Act 1 when John Proctor comes to visit Betty who has been "witched". Abigail knows Proctor and looks like she had an affair with him. Proctor already has a wife and because John Proctor is ignoring Abigail, she wants to kill Proctor's wife and she is thinking she might get his love of her life back. Therefore, I think Abigail might kill John Proctor and ask Proctor to marry her. If Proctor deny's she might kill him too for betraying her.
III. Characters
Abigail
Description: manipulative, psychotic, unmarried
Purpose: I think she is the villain in this play because she wanted to kill John Proctors wife, she is lying to her uncle Parris, and she is accusing innocent people of witchcraft. She is hiding her motives because she is going to do something horrible.
Outcome: People might blame her for what happended to betty. People will blame her being the devil worshiper and accused of being a witch. She will be hanged to death.

Post 6: Accusation
yes, there were many statements that I strongly agreed or disagreed. For example the statement about the confessing the crime I didn't commit. I would never confess a crime I didn't commit because if I confess the crime than people might see me different way or may think differently of me. The other statement that I strongly disagree to is justice is best determined in a court. I agree that the court system is the best way of determining what is right or wrong with proper evidence but I still don't think its the best way to get justice. The judge or jury may be biased and everyone has different opinions on different issue therefore make the jury totally biased against typically race, person or beliefs.
Even I don't know why I feel so strongly maybe its my gut feeling which I cant explain. Even my mind doesn't know why particular statement is right or wrong. By listening to my peers opinion I can see there are many ways to interpret a sentence. I mostly agreed to what everyone had to say. There were some sentences that mostly everyone agreed to and there were some that had class split. The discussion on different opinions was nice when people started sharing their own opinion and started arguing about some topics. Overall I like class discussion it really helps understand the different views of thing.
Many students said man things and many students were quiet as well. The discussion got heated up but it was fun at the same time. I just told my opinion if I disagreed or not but that's it I don't have anything else to add to it because people already said what I wanted to say.
There have been many times I have been accused of something. I cant think of a specific example at this point. I hated when people accused me of something I didn't do like take someone phone and hide it or take someones food. I get angry at the person accusing me because they just blame everything on you because you were by the thing stole or taken. They don't even think before speaking and starts yelling at others for no reason. I feel like the person should try and make an effort to finding what they lost and if cant find it ask for help instead of accusing someone for taking it. After the person finds what they are looking for I want to slap them across the face and be like you see I didn't touch your stuff. Te person accusing me probably wont care and start behave normally without apologizing for accusing me. End the result would the person starts doing what they were doing and I would start doing whatever I was doing.

Title: Antibiotic resistance
Author: Medicine Net
The argument is persuasive and this article gives a little bit of history of the antibiotic resistance bacteria. The microbes are living organisms that reproduce, thrive, and spread quickly and efficiently. Microbes include bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, which causes some staph infection), viruses (e.g., influenza, which causes the flu), fungi (e.g., Candida albicans, which causes some yeast infections), and parasites (e.g., Plasmodium falciparum, which causes malaria).
Antimicrobial is a general term given to medicines that kill or slow the growth of microbes. But when the microbes get resisted to the antibiotic they reproduce and is impossible to kill it. There are data in this article which has pictures that shows the bacteria are grown and what people do to increases the antibiotic resistance bacteria. Author of this article shows the history of how antibiotics were made. It sates that "In 1928 while working with Staphylococcus bacteria, Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming noticed that a type of mold growing by accident on a laboratory plate was protected from, and even repelled, the bacteria. The active substance, which Fleming called penicillin, was literally an antibiotic-it killed living organisms. It also states the problem with the antibiotics,
After more than 70 years of widespread use, evolution of disease-causing microbes also has resulted in many antimicrobials losing their effectiveness. As microbes evolve, they adapt to their environments. If something stops them from growing and spreading-such as an antimicrobial-they evolve new mechanisms to resist the antimicrobials by changing their genetic structure. Changing the genetic structure ensures that the offspring of the resistant microbes also are resistant. Antimicrobial resistance makes it harder to eliminate infections from the body. As a result of a microbe's ability to survive in the presence of antimicrobials, some infectious diseases are now more difficult to treat than they were just a few decades ago. In fact, antimicrobials have helped people so effectively that humans are hurting the protective value of medicines through overuse and misuse. More prudent use of antimicrobials will help to slow the development of resistance.
This is not the primary text but the information on this text is relevant and useful. I didn't know There are differences between this article and the other article because this article explain the history while the other articles explains the consequences and careless mistakes of people. The critical question could be answered by this article but also many question can be brought up because the history can't always be true. It is always interpreted.

Title: Antimicrobial resistance
Author: World Health Organization (WHO)
The argument is very persuasive, This article gives facts, graphs, pictures and data to make the argument more persuasive by supporting it with evidence. This is a factual topic and is supported by the world health organization and we can also tell this is a global issue and is very important concern globally. This is a factual article and there is no bias in it. Therefor it is not compelling to others. The author of the article states antibacterial resistance facts, explain what it means, and it also gives examples of major diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, HIV and many more. The best thing about this article is that it gives facts about what percent of the population was affected by the antimicrobial resistance bacteria and supports all the evidence by the research conducted by the world health organization. Author wants to make sure that public health is safe and people understands that antibiotic resistance bacteria is a major growing concern and could be dangerous to our health if we don't take any actions now. Author mentions the actions such as following the doctor instructions and taking precautions while using any type of antibiotics. The author also mentions to complete the full treatment course and always make sure you take your medication course everyday as prescribed by the doctor. This is a primary text because it is written by the world health organization, the organization that is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends. From this article I have many facts and statistics I could use in my research paper. It is also more useful than the other article because it has more accurate information. This article sees at the global concern not just national level or locals. All the articles that I have found so far all explain the antibiotic resistance bacteria but this article gives more global statistics on particular diseases in particular countries. When taking about this article their might be some questions brought up but it answers my questions and supports my thesis statement.

The argument is very persuasive it makes others want to do something about thus public health problem. Now that I have read this article I am more confident about my topic and the community awareness. All the data's are supported by facts and some also gives the precautions you should take for not causing more antibiotic resistance bacteria. Such as use personal hygiene techniques such as washing your hands, using hand sanitize, using tissue to wipe out the nose and keeping public area clean. No the data is the same in all three articles and s very useful for my topic. Author has used backgrounds information on the topic such as how antibiotics cannot kill antibiotics resistance bacteria. The author also explains how more bacteria's are being antibiotic resistance, and ways to prevent the resistance bacteria. Author thinks that the resistance bacteria can be avoided if people takes the necessary precautions and listen to the doctor. The is primary text because it is a government website and all the information on the article is for people to have more information about the important public health issue. By reading this you can interpret that antibiotic resistance bacteria are increasing and cause a mess in our world, if we don't take this seriously it will b a major problem such as global warming. We should also treat antibiotics fairly because it is because of these medicines many diseases such as TB, strep throat, and many more are being cured. Without it our world would be different place. This article unlike the other two article focuses more on the antibiotic resistance bacteria, while the other two article focused on the misuse of antibiotics. There are some similarities such as the precautions and to stop the unnecessary use. This article supports the point made in the other two article.

Author: Centers for Disease control and prevention (CDC)
The argument is not persuasive because this article mainly has all the things you should do or not do while taking an antibiotic and it also states what kind of infections are treated by the antibiotic and what kinds are not. For example only bacterial infections are treated but viral infections are not treated by the antibiotics. There are data in this article that supports my argument and is very persuasive in informing others for the overuse of the antibiotic. It mentions when to take antibiotics and when to stop taking it. Always to finish your medication course so all the bacteria dies out completely in your body. Therefore, decreasing the risk of causing the drug resistance bacteria. This article is straight forward and there are some data's that may be more important to get readers attention but according to me all the data's are as important. Author is trying to inform people what things to do and what not to do, when you should take antibiotics and when you should avoid it. Author is assuming for everyone to take the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor and not to overuse it or not to stop using it until your treatment course has been completed. Sometimes may people stops taking antibiotics when they start to feel better and never complete the medication course, this causes the drug resistance bacteria and there are more chances of you getting sick with the same bacteria again! This is the primary text because it come from the CDC the government organization who controls and prevents diseases. This text gives further details on what diseases is bacterial and virus infection. There are many similarities between this article and the mayo clinic article. Both of them shows the harmful effects and how the misuse of antibiotics causes drug resistance bacteria. The critical question of how to avoid or prevent the misuse has been answered in the articles of the mayo clinic and CDC. It states that we should not use antibiotics in viral infections because viruses can't be destroyed by antibiotics only bacteria can.

Title: Misuse of Antibiotics
Author: Mayo Clinic
I think the topic is persuasive because it is a very serious issues that is related wit peoples consumer- health. Many people across the country doesn't know about this particular issue and when they learn more about it people they would think twice before taking any antibiotics. There are also many facts, data and statistics on this particular issue that it will help my topic more persuasive. The article supports the misuse and explains the consequences in details. It also shows how commonly bacteria such as flu, coughs, sore throats and ear infections aren't cured by the antibiotics but people take antibiotics anyway.
The data used in this article is supported by the factual evidence and it is mainly states the after consequences of misuse for example causing drug resistance bacteria. There are no other evidence in the article that will weaken my argument .
The author makes assumptions that how people misguide doctors prescription or doesn't follow doctors note and take unnecessary antibiotics they don't need. The primary text of this article could be the interview with the doctor or the book written by the doctor but I don't think it would change he way people interpret this article because it is a article by mayo clinic a reliable source of the information.
By reading this article I leaned some new hings and some things I already knew from the biology class. We learned about the antibiotic resistance bacteria and how it reproduces to grow more resistance bacterium. From this article I learned about the report from the centers of Diseases control and Prevention. I learned that many people are dying today because they had drug resistance bacteria in their body and couldn't find stronger antibiotic to kill the bacteria. Now that I have learned people are dying from these careless and unknown mistakes I need to make sure I create awareness in my community and save people lives. This is the first article so there are no connection to it. It definitely engages in the critical question of the topic and supports with the factual evidence.

I want to do my research paper on global issues. This may not be my final topic but it is what I am going with right now. I want to do my research paper on Antibiotics. The use of antibiotics throughout US has increased significantly that the antibiotics doesn't affect us anymore.
This topic is interesting to me because I feel like this is a major issue that many people don't know about and people needs to get warned before it becomes inevitable problem. I also think antibiotics are the best inventions in the medical field. Due to antibiotics millions of lives have been saved and it has been an important part of medication.
It is relevant because there is no bias to it. It is a factual topic that doesn't have two sides to it. It is also an important and interesting topic that many people don't know about.
I should be able to find many research materials from it. There are many sources where I can find the information about this topic, I can use online websites and also interview doctors to ask their side of view on the topic. Antibiotics are very famous anybody can search and find out many things about the symptoms, side effects and the misuse.
My topic is how antibiotics are misused and cause extremely resistance germs/bacteria. I don't think it's broad because it is a question and is narrowed enough. I don't think it too narrow because it is not very specific.
My topic is not controversial because it is a factual topic and there are no opinion or sides to it. There is no sides to it or someone cant say its false because it is scientifically proven to be an issue.
I have heard to use primary and secondary source in the research paper. Not to plagiarize someone else work or copy it from the internet. Always have work cited page to give credit to the websites or people who gave the information. You also need a creative title for the paper to get readers attention. Have a strong thesis statement and have introduction, body paragraph and conclusion. Always review the paper and read out loud to hear the mistake.

I didn't have a good experience with the poetry. It has always been hard for me to understand poetry and figure out the moral behind it. I think it was because of the poetry my EOC's scores went down. I have hard time understanding haiku because a lot of problem, theme and background are wrote in only three lines. It is not that I hate poems I love them, I like how they rhyme, I like how they give a very important message and how so many feeling are expressed in only few lines. Once I understand a poem I feel like it was the best thing someone can write and I also praise the poet who writes amazing poems.
I find it difficult to understand because sometimes the words that poet uses to rhyme the poem is type of words that I have never heard before. Also, so many feelings and emotions are shown behind those few lines of poetry that I miss out what the poem is trying to say. I think Haiku is the most difficult poem to understand because it has so much less detail and a big meaning behind it.
Some tips and strategies that I learned is to always summarize each paragraph of the poem, check if the poem rhymes, and figure out the most redundant line in the poem because all these hints and clues leads to the main idea of the poem. I also learned to know the background information about the author because it helps you find out the theme of the poem.
The first poem My Dear and Loving Husband was facile to interpret because I read the background information about Anne Bradstreet first and from that I learned that she loved her husband so much she had eight kids and she wrote poems about her everyday life. She mentioned "love" so many times throughout the poem. She also mentioned how much she loved her husband and how love is priceless. No valley of gold could buy the love of her towards her husband. The second poem upon the burning was also easy to interpret because it had so much details and she made sure her message was clear that her house was burning and she couldn't do anything about it.
